Physical Education at SS. Mary and John

Our vision with Physical Education is to provide a high-quality PE curriculum which focuses on five key areas: SPORT

Skills to be developed and applied, Physical confidence, Opportunities to compete, Realise how to use life skills (sportsmanship and teamwork),

Taught to inspire and succeed in Physical Activity.

By following the National Curriculum, at SS. Mary and John's we aim to provide a high-quality physical education curriculum. Children take part in a compulsory 2 lessons of PE per week (one  taught by Mr. King and the other taught by your child's class teacher). This gives all children an opportunity to be inspired to exceed and excel in competitive sport; through gaining knowledge, skills and understanding in a range of sports. These include: invasion games (hockey, netball, football, basketball), net and ball games (badminton and tennis), striking and fielding (rounders), swimming, gymnastics, athletics, dance and outdoor adventurous activities (OAA).

Through Physical Education, children will be taught to appreciate the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. PE promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting and applying skills and promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle. Thus, we enable children to make informed choices about the positive effects physical activity can have throughout their lives.
