Uniform

Parents are advised strongly to make sure that all of their children’s clothing is clearly marked with their child’s name. School cannot take responsibility for any items of clothing or personal possessions that are mislaid within school.

Examples of our school uniform

School Uniform

  • Red pullover/cardigan (available from our uniform stockists). Our uniform policy does not require children to wear ‘SSMJ’ branded tops.
  • Red and grey tie (available from school office and our uniform stockists).
  • White shirt.
  • Charcoal grey trousers/grey knee length skirt/grey knee length pinafore.
  • Black ‘sensible’ shoes (not trainers or fashion shoes/boots).
  • Black/grey/white socks/grey or black tights.

Tie

Please note that a tie is part of the school uniform and must be worn by all pupils.

  • Reception children need to wear an elastic tie.
  • Years 1 to 6 can decide whether they wish to wear an elasticated or traditional tie.

Shoes

In all cases, black ‘sensible’ shoes should be worn as part of the school uniform – never trainers or girls fashion shoes or boots. This extends to footwear for playtime.

Summer Uniform

  • Charcoal grey knee length tailored shorts can be worn.
  • Red gingham summer dress can be worn.
  • White polo shirt with the logo embroidered on or plain.

PE/Games Uniform

All children should come to school dressed in PE kit, on the days that PE is scheduled for their class. The PE uniform consists of:

  • Plain/SSMJ embroidered red t-shirt.
  • Plain black jogging bottoms. Leggings and cycling shorts are NOT to be worn. Different colour tracksuit bottoms WILL NOT be permitted.
  • Plain black shorts (to be worn under jogging bottoms outside of the winter months).
  • Plain/SSMJ school jumper or cardigan.
  • Trainers.

All items can be worn with or without the SSMJ badge embroidered on.

Swimming

A one-piece swimming costume (not a tankini or bikini) and trunks (not shorts) for swimming, plus a towel and a bag for swimming kit and wet clothing.

Not Acceptable

There are certain things which are not considered appropriate or acceptable:

  • Haircuts must be sensible, neat and clean, without extremes of fashion such as colours, shaven styles, tram-lines or patterns etc.
  • Hair should be tied back with a simple band or bobble. Fashion hair accessories are not suitable for school.
  • All hairslides, pins, hair bands and bobbles should be small and discreet.
  • Apart from stud earrings (one stud per ear) and watches, children may not wear jewellery. For safety reasons any other jewellery will be removed.
  • Nail varnish and make up may not be worn.

Children who fail to comply with such requirements and standards may be excluded from school. It is, therefore, very important that all parents ensure that children conform to the school’s standards and expectations.
