Our Saints

Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati

John 6’s class saint is St Pier Giorgio Frassati, who was born in Turin, Italy, in 1901 and lived a life filled with faith, friendship, adventure and service.

He enjoyed climbing mountains, skiing and spending time outdoors with his friends, while also dedicating time to helping people who were poor and in need. Pier Giorgio believed that faith should lead us to action and quietly served others without seeking recognition. His joyful approach to life reminds us that we can love God, enjoy life and make a difference through caring for others.

Saint Maria Goretti

Mary 6’s class saint is St. Maria Goretti – a young Italian girl who lived with her family in poverty and who was known for her strong faith and loving nature.

When she was just eleven years old, she was attacked by a young man and seriously wounded after resisting his attempt to assault her. Before she died, Maria forgave the person who had attacked her and expressed a desire to see him in heaven. Years later, he repented and experienced a conversion. St Maria Goretti is remembered for her courage, forgiveness and deep faith, reminding us of the Christian call to show mercy rather than hatred.
