Our Saints
Saint Maximilian Kolbe
John 6’s class saint is St. Maximilian Kolbe, a kind and brave priest from Poland. He was born in 1894 and loved Mary, the Mother of Jesus, very much. As he grew up, he became a Franciscan friar and worked to spread love and faith through writing, radio, and prayer.
During World War II, Maximilian was taken to a terrible place called Auschwitz, a prison camp. One day, a man was chosen to die, and Maximilian offered to take his place – he wanted to save the man because he had a family.
Maximilian gave his life out of love, just like Jesus did. The man he saved lived and told everyone about Maximilian’s great act of kindness and courage.
St. Maximilian Kolbe shows us how to be brave, loving, and unselfish, even in the hardest times.

Saint Maximilian Kolbe
Saint Therese of Lisieux
Mary 6’s class saint is St. Thérèse of Lisieux, a kind and loving girl from France who became a saint. She was born in 1873 and loved Jesus very much from a young age. When she was just 15 years old, she joined a group of nuns called the Carmelite Sisters.
Thérèse wanted to do big things for God, but she realized that even little things done with love made God very happy. She called this her ‘Little Way’ – doing small, everyday things with great love and trust in God.
She prayed a lot, helped others, and was always gentle and kind. Even though she died young, at just 24 years old, she became one of the most loved saints in the world.
St. Thérèse teaches us that we don’t have to be famous or rich to be close to God – we just need to love Him in all we do, even in little ways.
